Well, they’re trying, but they’re being careful because the water pressure from the hoses can cause the melted plastic and associated oils to flow to other areas, possibly spreading the fire to adjacent buildings or starting a grass fire. Directly north of the plant is a rail line. Further north is undeveloped land between Fairfield and Vacaville. So, the presence of the toxins in the air due to methodical firefighting might be slightly preferable to an out of control grass fire in the area.
