Since I have been taking a hiatus from the website recently, I have been working more and more on my health, gaining new knowledge all the time about how the body works and what it needs to thrive.
In early 2011, while researching our own health, we discovered, since there was nothing more that the doctors could do for Greg or myself in regards to our ailments, that there were GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms) in our foods. We couldn’t believe our eyes!
We were shocked reading how they kill the good bacteria in your gut as well as compromise your immune system. They also cause a whole slew of other physical issues in addition to lowering the immune system, it can cause Cancer, Sterility, Autism, ADD, ADHD, Depression, Anxiety, Crohn disease, Celiac Disease, IBS, Fibromyalgia and many other diseases we see people of all ages have now.
We researched more and more, so we started taking non-GMO holistic supplements for pain and inflammation as well as taking multivitamins.  As time went on we eventually shopped solely GMO Free. Greg a little earlier than myself as I was still addicted to sodas until October of 2012, yes, last year!
For my Fibromyalgia I am taking and am still taking, a MultivitaminTraumeel (for pain), ETAforce (for pain and inflammation), MegaRed “Joint Health” (potent antioxidant to help relieve oxidative damage in joints), and 5HTP (5-Hydroxytryptophan) and Melatonin to sleep. I am also taking B-Complex Sublingual for an energy boost in the morning, CoQ10 for my heart and Vitamin D in the latter part of the winter months.
This is what has enabled me to get out of bed completely so that I could eat more non-GMO food and get better by cooking on our own, in addition to getting our meals more frequently than once a day. When I stopped drinking sodas completely in October of 2012, I began to be able to get out of bed 6 out of 7 days of the week. Prior to this, I was lucky to get out of bed, other than for a meal, 3 0r 4 days out of the week. When I would clean our house, it would take me hours to clean one corner of the room, then I would have to sit down and rest.
The Cymbalta made me sweat more than usual, no actually, I used to get my clothing drenched, just from running up and down the staircase once. It also gave me hives, sleepless nights, and made me forgetful as well as not being able to think straight. It would take me 6 hours or more to write an article. At that point, the doctor gave me three other medications just for the symptoms.
Once I stopped taking the medications for the side effects and then the Cymbalta for my Fibromyalgia, starting from December 2012 to March of this year, I was completely healed! I didn’t want to mention it until I was sure, but I am sure, I haven’t had pain in months and I get out of bed EVERY SINGLE DAY now and have been since March. That’s 5 months with absolutely NO pain and the ability to get out of bed everyday, when I had been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in January of 2009, that’s 3 years in bed, for the most part!
How did I take myself off of Cymbalta, you ask? Greg researched how many beads a day you need to take out of the capsule in order to wean off of them. A lot of articles stated to take out 3 beads a day out. For instance, the first day you take out 3, next day you take out 6, the next day 9, and so on until you are off of the medication. This equates to taking yourself off of it at a rate of 1mg a day. This way you will not be plagued with nasty side effects from the withdrawal, such as brain zaps and seizure type side effects.
Because I had been on SSRI’s (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors) for 25 years, I had emotional issues when coming off of it. I was very angry and my behaviors were out of control and I was crying a lot, which is why I was not writing. I am better now, but it was a rough transition, however I no longer am on any SSRI’s and I am no longer depressed or have anxiety and after 25 years of being on them!
In addition to not having Fibromyalgia, Anxiety, or Depression anymore, I no longer have IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), Hives, and I lost over 100 pounds as a result of not eating GMOs.
You can heal yourself too! It is all in what you put in your mouth and asking vendors or markets you go to, lots of questions about their foods and where they get them from. If they are not forthcoming, or do not know, I would pass on buying their products and look elsewhere. Or perhaps do research on that particular company.
I think I have done an excellent job on healing my ailments with just a bit of research and changing my eating habits as well as shopping in many different places, mostly at Trader Joe’s, but we do get some things from Co-op’s and Farmer’s Markets (you still have to be careful as they do have some GMO vendors), but wherever we do shop, we always look at ingredients and if we can, try to make a lot of things on our own.
We need to all live healthy lifestyles and what companies put on the shelf that have been approved by the FDA or USDA even, may not be healthy for you! We have to watch what we put in our mouths always!
After the March Against Monsanto in May of this year, I had been asked to be the “Chapter Leader” for our County in Pennsylvania for GMO Free PA, a 501(c)(4) non-profit organization. In addition to all of this, I was also asked to build their website. When we get the website going, people can hear more about who we are and what we do as well as us getting more information about GMOs out to the public.
Also, in July I was asked to do an video interview for GMO Free USA to help pass the Washington State GMO Labeling Bill, I-522. If people didn’t watch the documentary, we also created a commercial on this, that can be seen all across the networks in Washington State, as well. It will be interesting to see the final product. When it does come out, I will have to link the documentary for all of you to see!
So since I have gotten healthy by not eating GMOs, I am on the go now, or at least more than I was. I have conquered what medical science has not and you can too! Stop eating GMOs!
So here is to being healthy and being a living example of what eating non-GMO foods can do for you and your health! We can have a whole new outcome for our future if we just stop eating GMOs.
